Vintage Generations

Though they’ve been creating wines off-site since 2006, Hamel Family Wines was looking to create a winery that would sustain multiple generations and appeal to true oenophiles. Inspired by the Hamel’s vision, Gould Evans designed a wine production facility and visitor center overlooking the family’s estate-grown, organically farmed vineyards and Sonoma Mountains. During construction at Hamel Family Wines, Canary worked with Gould Evans in San Francisco to develop signage and wayfinding solutions that seamlessly integrate throughout the design and landscape of the project.

In addition to ADA and Life Safety signage, Canary studied how to compliment the existing Hamel Family Wines’ iconic badger and typeface with project materials and colors to create wayfinding design that extends the building architecture. The result is a cohesive arrival sequence, subtly guiding the guest, setting the tone and enhancing the winery experience.

In addition, Canary worked with Hamel Family Wines to further develop the signage program to incorporate a walking tour. Interpretive stanchion signage was designed to include maps and facts to inform visitors of the sustainable and historic stories of the winery. To compliment the stanchions, a booklet memento was designed to provide further information and guide guests who are not on formal tours.
